Brentford vs Manchester United (4-3): The Bees hold on for 3 points in a thrilling 7-goal match

Manchester United’s Premier League struggles continued with a 4-3 defeat to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. Despite taking a narrow lead thanks to Mason Mount’s opener, the Red Devils conceded four goals in a chaotic game, extending their winless run in the league to six. For Brentford, the result marked only their second win in 13 head-to-head meetings with United and propelled them into the top half of the table.

First half – Mount scores, but Brentford hit back

Brentford started well and could have taken the lead as early as the fifth minute. Kevin Schade wasted two clear chances: first by missing the target when Altay Bayındır was poorly positioned, and then by sliding in at the far post, again narrowly missing the target.

But against the run of play, Manchester United broke the deadlock with their only shot of the half. Alejandro Garnacho found Mason Mount in the box, and the midfielder calmly slotted home his second goal for United, both against Brentford.

This lead lasted only a few minutes, however, as the Bees stormed back. A long throw-in from Michael Kayode caused chaos in the United penalty area, and Mikkel Damsgaard’s shot was deflected past Bayındır by Luke Shaw. Schade, who had been a constant threat, then made up for it by heading in a Christian Nørgaard cross at the far post, giving Brentford a deserved 2-1 lead at the break.

Second half – Bees blitz surprises United

Manchester United resumed the second half with more determination, with Mount trying two chances but failing to trouble Mark Flekken. However, Kayode’s long passes continued to cause panic in the Red Devils’ defense, and Brentford’s dominance finally paid off when Schade headed home his second goal of the game, this time from Bryan Mbeumo’s precise cross.

Moments later, the home side struck again. A quick attacking move allowed Wissa to convert from close range, giving Brentford an insurmountable 4-1 lead, leaving United completely reeling.

Late response fails

To their credit, United responded with vigor late on. Garnacho curled a superb shot into the top corner to reduce the deficit, before Amad Diallo added another with a low shot that skimmed past Flekken’s legs. Despite the suspense, it was too little, too late.
