Liverpool vs Tottenham 5-1: In-form Reds win Premier League title

Liverpool tied for their 20th English league title with a resounding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, capping a remarkable Premier League campaign under Arne Slot. Despite an initial setback, the Reds bounced back to lift the trophy with a dazzling attacking performance, capping a historic day in front of a rousing crowd.

First Half – Early Scare, Quick Reaction

With the Kop in full swing well before kick-off, Liverpool looked to finish quickly, but it was Tottenham who struck first. A well-taken corner from James Maddison was headed home by former Red Dominic Solanke, briefly stunning the Anfield fans. However, Liverpool were quick to respond: Mohamed Salah slipped Dominik Szoboszlai back for Luis Díaz, who scored his 100th Premier League goal.

Relief quickly gave way to jubilation a few minutes later, when Liverpool’s relentless pressing resulted in a turnover and Alexis Mac Allister sent a superb strike into the top corner. After regaining control, the Reds continued to tighten the screws, and Cody Gakpo made it 3-1 before the break, capitalizing on a shaky Spurs defense to find the top corner with precision.

Second half – Ruthless Reds seal the title

Liverpool picked up where they left off after the restart, easily breaking through the Spurs defense. Gakpo had a wonderful opportunity to extend the lead, but preferred to equalize for Salah, thus missing his chance. However, the Egyptian wasn’t disappointed for long, beating Vicario with a ruthless strike, ending a six-game goalless streak and extending Liverpool’s lead to four goals.

Spurs’ misfortune worsened when Destiny Udogie deflected a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross into his net, scoring Liverpool’s 15th goal against the Londoners in all competitions this season. With the Anfield crowd already celebrating, Liverpool comfortably won the knockout stages, securing the league title for the first time in front of a packed stadium.

What this means

Liverpool’s victory not only secures their 20th league title, equaling Manchester United’s record but also makes Arne Slot the sixth manager to win the Premier League in his first season at the club. For Spurs, the defeat continues a string of away defeats, with seven defeats in their last nine away games and a 16th consecutive trip without a win at Anfield.
